Carrick
In case Galilee
proved a disappointment
this was the understudy,
the hillsides green and suitable for preaching,
the fishing good, sudden squalls
giving way to miraculous calms,
weather that, like Him, each day decides
whether
to be wind or fiery sun,
earth tremor or the still and quiet voice.
Written during a holiday in Cornwall
in 1988.
