The fall

From the very beginning
nothing was ruled out
and nothing ruled in
except choice;
but every choice
rules out another. 

And so we are excluded
from the garden.
Peace is excluded.
Pain is included.
Time and death now are included.
Only love and its sacrifice
remains a choice
without limitation.
